John II Casimir, Szóstak 1662 GBA, Lviv – rare
Type VII (Ciura) bust.
The Ślepowron coat of arms (of Jan Kazimierz Krasiński—Grand Treasurer of the Crown) is divided by a circumferential inscription on the obverse.
On the reverse, on either side of the shield bearing the Snopek coat of arms (the coat of arms of the Vasa family), are the letters G B – A (the initials of Giovanni Battista Ammureti—the leaseholder of the Lviv mint).
A variant with simple coat-of-arms shields. The upper edges of the shields are decorated with bows.
An oval-shaped cartouche bearing the Vasa coat of arms. Above the cartouche is a trefoil.
A variant with inscriptions: the king’s title “IO CASIM … POL ET SVE” in the border on the obverse and “… ARGEN SEX REG POL …” in the border on the reverse.
Condition: 3+
Locally under-struck, but fully legible and, for this type, a very nicely preserved piece. A rarer year of issue. A rare variant. An attractive coin.
