From 1922, Hayden turned away from the style of Cubism, searching for a new artistic language. At that time, his work includes numerous representations of landscapes, genre scenes, nudes and just portraits. In these depictions, Hayden steers towards paintings painted in the realist convention. Hayden's portraits are synthetically guided drawings, with delicately marked contours. The artist builds his paintings with a wide color patch, modeling them with soft chiaroscuro. Models in Hayden's work are usually shown against a monochromatic, neutral background.
