LA SCALA, owner of Teatro alla Scala - opera theater in Milan, one of the most famous in the world. The theater building was designed in 1776-1778 by architect Giuseppe Piermarini. Based on his plans, the edifice with a classicist facade was built in two years. The theater seated more than 3,000 spectators, was illuminated with thousands of candles, and had 5 wreaths of boxes, each of which was different. The name "Teatro alla Scala" comes from the name of Princess Beatrice Regina della Scala, wife of Duke Bernabo Visconti, founder of the church of Santa Maria alla Scala built in the 14th century, which once stood on the construction site of the new opera house. Beginning in the late 18th century, La Scala has played the role of an opera art center of international importance. It seats 3,600 people.
