Wilhelm VELTEN
1847 St. Petersburg - 1929 Munich
He began his painting studies between 1867 and 1869 at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, and later - from 1870 - was a pupil of Wilhelm von Diez at the Munich Academy. He settled permanently in Munich. In the 1890s he became a member of the Munich Secession society. Like his teacher Wilhelm Diez, the artist painted mainly genre motifs - hunting, horsemen and the camp life of soldiers - set in the realities of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
