Wambierzyce - sometimes called "the Silesian Jerusalem" . - one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in southern Poland. The village is located at an altitude of 370-410 meters above sea level, in the picturesque Cedron valley, in the eastern part of the Table Mountains (Lower Silesia). The place first appeared in chronicles in 1330 as Alberndorf, and later Alberdorf (1418), Alberti Villa (1560), and finally turned into Albendorf. Czech pilgrims from Moravia and Bohemia called the place Vambeřice. Since 1945, the Polish name Wambierzyce has been in effect. In 1980 Pope John Paul II gave the Madonna of Wambierzyce the title "Queen of Families."
