Venetian Master of the 18th Century, Domenico Fedeli's circle, known as Maggiotto, Pair of portraits: Boy Reading a Book and Boy Holding an Apple
This pair of images shows children reading a book and holding an apple. Canvases can be easily assigned to the bust style of teenagers and genre scenes belonging to Maggiotto.
Maggiotto visited the studio of Giovanni Battista Piazzetta (1682-1754), of which he was a pupil. He never moved from Venice and remained faithful to the Piazzetta school, which is characterized by chiaroscuro, reddish-brown and gray-pearl tones and subtle shades. He deftly reworked the iconographic and technical repertoire, preferring bucolic and popular topics. Oil on canvas, 53 x 45 cm
