As a doctor of law and an art historian, Agathon Klemt was an important Czech personality. He became a painter without any art education. He was entirely self-taught in the field of painting; a remarkable fact given the quality of his works. Klemt was a very talented portraitist who painted a number of Czech and Austrian personalities, including František Palacký. Today, this portrait is housed in the National Museum, in Prague. In addition to portraits, Klemt devoted himself to genre painting, illustrations and altar paintings.
