18th Century Painter , The Flute Player

This 18th-century painting captures a close-up, half-length portrait of a flute player, offering a glimpse into the everyday life and simple pleasures of the period. The subject is shown wearing a broad-brimmed hat adorned with a green leaf, a white shirt, and a blue waistcoat. The flutist's concentration is palpable as he raises the instrument to his lips, his gaze cast downward in focus. The artist's brushwork skillfully renders the warm, earthy tones of the flutist’s skin and the folds of his clothes, while the darker background draws attention to the figure's face and hands. The painting's intimate scale and genre-like subject matter are characteristic of 18th-century art, which often celebrated common people and their daily activities. This work is a charming example of genre portraiture that combines a sense of immediacy with a timeless artistic quality. Oil on canvas , 54 x 40 cm
