Władysław IV Vasa, 1634 II Ducat, Toruń – rare
Obverse:
A bust of Władysław IV Vasa in right-side profile, wearing a crown and armor. The Order of the Golden Fleece on his chest.
On the rim, an inscription divided at the top by a crown: VLA IIII D G REX POL ET SVE M D L R P M
Reverse:
An angel holding an oval shield bearing the coat of arms of Toruń. On either side of the shield are the initials I–I (Jakub Jacobson—manager of the Toruń mint from 1633 to 1639).
Inscription on the rim: MONETA AVR CIVIT THORVNENSIS 1634
A variant with the king’s title VLA … SVE M D L R P M inscribed on the rim of the obverse.
Condition: PCGS AU Detail
Slightly worn obverse (traces visible in the photo), but a beautifully struck and well-preserved piece for this type. Good luster and plenty of mint mirror finish. The coin is graded PCGS AU Detail. In this condition, the coin is rare and hard to find on the collector’s market. A beautiful piece.
