Silesia – Duchy of Legnica, Brzeg, and Wołów, The Three Brothers, Talar 1659 EW, Brzeg – very rare and very attractive
Obverse:
Half-length portraits of the three brothers (George III of Brzeg, Louis IV of Legnica, and Christian of Wołów).
In the rim, an inscription separated at the top by the apple of sovereignty: D G GEORGIVS LVDOVICVS ET CHRISTIANVS FRAT
Reverse:
A four-field coat-of-arms shield. On either side of the coat of arms are the initials E–W (Elias Wiess—master of the Brest mint). The rim bears an inscription, separated at the top by a rosette and at the bottom by the mint mark “a heart pierced by hooks” (Christiana Pfahler—Master of the Brest Mint): DVCES SILESIÆ LIGNIC BRE – GENS ET WOLAVIENSES 1659
Condition:
A beautifully struck and well-preserved piece. Beautiful detail. Luster and plenty of mint mirror finish. Charming patina. In this condition, the coin is very rare and extremely difficult to find on the collectors’ market. A beautiful piece to adorn any collection.
