In 1923, the Utrecht Mint struck silver coins in denominations of 5, 2, 1, and 1/2 gulden, which had been designed in Gdańsk. These coins were part of Gdańsk’s new monetary system based on the British pound, in which 1 gulden was equivalent to 1/25 of a pound. This system was intended to restore order to Gdańsk’s finances following hyperinflation. Pursuant to the agreements of December 31, 1923, a currency conversion was implemented. 1 gulden was equivalent to 750 billion German paper marks.
