LT. missing - DT.2454 - IDF CAR 15 missing the star in front of the mouth; Bronze - 2.76 g - 17 mm - 9 h
MP specimen No. 132 in the book “Surréelles Monnaies Gauloises,” by Samuel Gouet and Marc Petit—acquired from Luger (Tours) in 2003.
Bronze on a relatively large blank for this type, with a well-centered obverse and reverse. Dark green patina, somewhat uneven, especially on the reverse. TTB.
This specific type, with no motif in front of the mouth, is missing from recent publications. Classified under the “Northern Carnutes / Maudre-Vaucouleurs Group,” the CAR 15 bronze is divided into four classes; all feature a star or a dotted ring in front of the mouth. Our specimen, which has the advantage of being perfectly centered so that the bare area in front of the mouth is clearly visible, would therefore belong to a Class 5 that has not yet been published. The star depicted on Class 4 (of which only one example is known) is therefore not so clear, and the obverse could be the same as that of our bronze coin.
