A nice, slightly underprinted piece of the penultimate year of John II Casimir’s orths.
A very rare variant with the error “REE” instead of “REX.”
Obverse: A bust of Jan Kazimierz Vasa facing right, wearing plate armor with a lace-trimmed, lined collar. A decorative shoulder guard with studs and rivets. A four-loop crown with jewels. On the king’s chest, the Order of the Golden Fleece hangs from a decorative chain. Folds of the cloak are visible on his shoulder and chest. Beneath the arm are the letters “TLB,” the initials of Titus Livius Boratini, leaseholder of the Bydgoszcz mint. Below the bust is Ślepowron in a shield—the coat of arms of Jan Kazimierz Krasiński, Grand Crown Treasurer—with the inscription along the rim:
IOAN•CASIMIR•D G•-REE POL•& SVE•;
Reverse: a five-field coat of arms shield, crowned with a jeweled crown within a closed ring featuring five fleurons, bearing the coats of arms of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and the Snop coat of arms of the Vasa dynasty; on either side of the shield, a mantling and the denomination 1–8; the outer ring bears a legend divided by the Wieniawa coat of arms of Grand Crown Treasurer Bogusław Leszczyński:
