This magnificent painting, despite the signature on it, is the work of Jerzy Kossak. For it happened - and this fact is known from the literature - that Jerzy Kossak signed his works with the name of his father, Wojciech Kossak.
Belonging to the third generation of Kossak painters, Jerzy, the successor to the talents of his grandfather Juliusz and father Wojciech, was a gifted painter (...) but working under too much pressure from family tradition, and too strongly tied to the Kossak "school", he was unable to become independent, or at least develop his own style. He was the author of compositions that repeated Wojciech's iconography: Napoleonic scenes and the times of the Polish-Bolshevik war - chases after the Bolsheviks, compositions in the "lancer and girl" style, as well as oriental scenes, hunting and Krakow weddings.
