Janusz Orbitowski (Krakow 1940-Krakow 2017) studied from 1961-67 at the Faculty of Painting and Graphics of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, receiving his diploma in the atelier of Adam Marczyński. Since 1971 he was a teacher at his alma mater, and since 1993 a professor. Since his early years, he has practiced geometric, systemic art, being one of its most consistent representatives in Poland. He created monochromatic relief compositions and their equivalents in drawing techniques. He operates with modular forms of squares, rhombuses or rectangles, sometimes enriched with rhythms of thin slats or bars. Arrangements of these elements, situated in different ways in relation to each other and to the ground, he enriches with valor effects. He achieves them by painting methods or by lighting - so that the protruding elements of the relief cast shadows. The artist has repeatedly exhibited at home and abroad, including at geometric art exhibitions organized by Bożena Kowalska. He was also a participant in her open-air workshops in Okuninka in 1984-97, and collaborated with the Starmach Gallery in Cracow.
