Jan Astner has an ongoing project - he paints an infinite series of abstract cityscapes. He systematically fixes portraits of visited cities. The project has been going on for several years. Every year new works arrive. VOLUPTUOUS TOWNS - a series of cityscapes, is a diary of the artist's travels. Each painting is a record of the feelings of the visit, discoveries and experiences.
The entire series is painted using the imprint method. Jan Astner does not use a brush to create these works. He creatively searches for new painting tools. Often these are objects found during his travels. Souvenir objects from the cities visited. Paintings from the series VOLUPTUOUS TOWNS - refer to cubism, macro puentilism, process painting. The works are very rich and multi-layered. The structure of the painting can be studied repeatedly. Each viewer will notice different details, discover something new. This richness is due to the painting technique used. Hundreds, sometimes thousands of marks. From tiny dots and dashes, to large planes of imprinted acrylic paint.
