Acrylic paints on canvas stretched on wooden looms, 50cm x 75cm. Painted with a unique technique using sponge, metallic paints and high gloss varnishes.
Jan Astner's series of TRANQUILIDAD paintings is a unique compilation of the artist's memories of his stays in Andalusia. In his paintings, the artist tried to reflect the character of the southern region of Spain, its culture, the inhabitants' approach to life and fun. TRANQUILIDAD means "tranquility." It is an emanation of joie de vivre, enjoying the moment, having fun in the company of friends, time spent with a glass of sherry wine and chatting with friends.
The TRANQUILIDAD series of paintings is painted using a unique technique developed by Jan Astner. Thin layers of paint are applied with a damp sponge. The drawing is gradually washed out. The artist thus achieves the effects of transparency and luminosity. One painting consists of many such layers. The delicate forms are ephemeral, openwork. Each painting is an open composition, as if cut out of a larger whole. It is unlimited - it can develop in any direction. Tranquility emanates from the paintings, they lack any tension, any intensity. A respite, a fleeting mood of the moment, a pleasurable time.
