Jacenty Wójcik, "Window," 20th century Poland.

A painting by Jacenty Wójcik [1940-2018], a Polish painter and restorer. The painting depicts a fragment of the facade of a house with a centrally located window with a white frame. The background is a yellow, horizontally arranged texture of the wall, suggesting wooden planks or their imitation. The lower part of the composition shows a strip of greenery with numerous pink flowers with soft, fuzzy contours, forming a dense, decorative wall garden. The window is shown frontally; the glass reflects the light and suggests the presence of the interior through darker patches. The painting layer is free-form, with visible brushstrokes. The color scheme is based on contrasts of yellow, green and pink, with accents of white and dark tones. On the reverse, an inscription identifying the author and the title and price of the work: "Jacenty Wójcik Window Canvas 80 x 60, 5,500".

Although Wójcik created mainly abstract works, the realistic theme of "flowers under the window" appeared at least twice in the artist's work. However, and this should be emphasized once again, the painter usually remained in the circle of art inspired by abstractionism and formalism, hence realistic paintings are rare in his work.
The motif of the window in the history of art often functions as a symbol of the boundary between the outer and inner worlds, private experience and reality. In the context of Wojcik's work, it can be interpreted as an attempt to capture the moment of suspension between abstract perception of form and direct observation of nature.
From a collector's point of view, the artist's figurative works are of particular importance - their rarity and documented authorship (handwritten description on the back) increase the value of the object. This work is part of the broader context of Polish postwar painting, showing the artist's individual search beyond the abstract tendencies that dominate his oeuvre.
