The calmness of Cześnik's paintings is only apparent, their world is shaken by paroxysms of love and dance, pain and mockery, fear (...). Expressionism, as its precursors at the beginning of the century wanted, is a cry of the soul, but it can be a cry of mortal terror and delight. We stand before these images full of contradictions as co-understanders, not so much witnesses to the drama as participants in it, equally flawed and torn.
