Eugeniusz EIBISCH (1896-1987)
Painter, draughtsman, pedagogue, associated with the École de Paris circle, member of the grouping Jednoróg and ZPAP. His work referred to the colorist trend. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow with J. Malczewski and W. Weiss (1912-1920). From 1922 to 1939 he was in Paris, where he actively participated in the artistic life there, exhibited at the Salons, in the galleries of L. Zborowski and G. Bernheim. After returning to Poland, he headed the drawing department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, and after the war was the rector of the academy. From 1950-1969 he taught painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Initially interested in the experience of the Formists, during the Paris period he often referred to the dramatic expression of Soutine's painting, and in time he created compositions in which color became the essential structural element. He painted portrait studies of women, still life series and landscape motifs.
