The artist graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She received her diploma with honors in 1977 in the studio of Prof. Jan Tarasin and the studio of Prof. Wojciech Sadley. She was a full professor at the Faculty of Painting, and has served as Dean of the Faculty since 2012. She was involved in unique textiles and easel painting. She has received scholarships from The Pollock-Krasner Foundation in New York, as well as the Culture Foundation and the Batory Foundation in Warsaw. Winner of many awards and prizes.
Zbigniew Taranienko wrote about Dorota Grynczel's paintings that "they have become [...] a kind of monograph of one color - blue, a color with diverse symbolic meanings in many cultures, including European; its most frequent reference was human spirituality, sometimes other, equally high values. Blue was not overlooked in modern art either - Piet Mondrian considered it the color of the energy of the intellect, in opposition to the element of red; the paintings of Yves Klein, painter, experimenter, precursor of action, which were covered with elaborate blue color, were particularly echoed. Blue also appeared frequently in the works of Polish abstractionists - even the jumper stripe, with which Edward Krasinski annexed space, was not without its associated symbolic value" ([in:] Dorota Grynczel. "I paint as much as I need in one go or I return to the painting after some time. I correct the whole thing or a piece many times. However, this resembles the process of painting - it happens that something earlierv I have to correct. I would like this to happen more efficiently, but it doesn't. Sometimes I get up in the morning, go to check and notice that yesterday it would have been enough to make only a few brushstrokes to complete the painting..."
