Andrzej Nowacki was born in 1953 in Rabka. He spent his early youth in Kraków. In 1977, he left Poland and studied Scandinavian studies at the University of Gothenburg, as well as German studies and art history at the University of Innsbruck.
In the early 1980s, he met Kajetan Sosnowski and Henryk Stażewski. Stażewski’s work in particular—with whom he remained in contact for many years—had a significant influence on Nowacki’s later works.
He lives and works in Berlin.
