Andrzej Gieraga (born in Śliwniki in 1934, lives in Łódź) – studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Łódź; he received his diploma with honors in 1971. He has been a faculty member at that institution since 1977 and a professor since 1990. Gieraga’s body of work can be divided into two periods, with a turning point around 1990. In the first period, he developed a recognizable style. He complemented a color palette reduced to black and white with contrasting textures (matte and glossy). A defining feature of the second period of Gieraga’s work is a return to color and a departure from organic forms.
