Tomasz KAZIKOWSKI
1952 Mogielnica - 2021
Studied at the Faculty of Painting, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, graduated with honors under the direction of Jan Tarasin in 1977. Graphic appendix to the diploma he made under the direction of Halina Chrostowska. Comprehensive education, interest in the art of past eras, and above all, the artist's extraordinary imagination makes his compositions surprising with a specific, deliberate anachronism. The paintings reflect the half erudite, half mocking atmosphere of postmodern art of the late 20th century, while being an expression of longing for the lost idyll of the "golden age." Under Kazikowski's hand, it takes on the forms of a kind of "theater of life," played out by characters, mostly women in timeless, bright and flowing outfits, behaving and moving as if on stage. This impression is heightened by the peculiar space of the interiors with backstage buildings, clearances, clearly defined plans. The figures and shapes are characterized by flawless drawing.
