This realistic landscape from the end of the 19th century represents the early work of Stanislav Lolek, known primarily as an illustrator, but at the same time a highly regarded landscape artist. A view of a vast meadow with hints of flowers and a horizon lined with the soft contours of mountains reveals the author's extraordinary observational talent, a feeling for the light atmosphere and a sense for a simple but strong compositionLolek here captures the changing spring light and natural calm with an accuracy close to a topographic record, but at the same time with a lyrical perception of the landscape as a space of deep spiritual harmony. The emphasis on natural colors, soft strokes and an earthy palette brings this work closer to František Kavan's early paintings, especially from his period in the Giant Mountains, when he focused on the raw beauty of the Czech landscape without idealization.
