The manor house in Lusławice, which belonged to Adolf Vayhinger and where Jacek Malczewski's sisters lived, was very often chosen as a holiday destination by the artist himself. Michalina Janoszanka - Malczewski's muse - notes in her memoirs that it was there" (...) refined and tasteful in the old-fashioned way. The entire walls from the ceiling to the bottom hung with paintings by Malczewski, the property of Mrs. Karczewska (Malczewski's sister Helena) (...) walls full of masterpieces and the youth of recent years."
Malczewski was particularly fond of visiting Lutosławice in the last years of his life. From the same year as the charming "Bedroom Interiors (...) " presented at the auction come, among others, paintings full of intimacy and warmth, "Interior of the Salon in Luslawice" (National Museum in Warsaw) or "Self-portrait against an Interior Background" (Jacek Malczewski Museum in Radom). The presented work shows a fragment of a bedroom in a manor house in Luslawice. The artist placed an analogous fragment of this interior with a red screen and a large closet in the background of his sketchy "Self-Portrait," also from 1926, which is in the collection of the National Museum in Cracow.
The work, which depicts the interiors of a manor house in Luslawice and dates from 1926, is among Jacek Malczewski's last oil paintings.
