Περιγραφή θέσης
Alexander Magnus, et in illum commentarius Samuelis Pitisci, quo antiquitates

Persarum, Macedonum, Phoenicum, Carthaginensium, Romanorum, Babyloniorum, Indorum, Atheniensium ex auctoribus idoneis fere septingentis Graecis et Latinis veteribus et recentioribus perpetuo tenore explicantur. Hagae 1708. apud Petrum van Thol. (20 x 12.5 cm), p. [33], pp. 103, [5], 855, p. [84], 17 copperplate engravings on separate plates (including 10 typesetting, including maps), period perg. binding.
This is one of the most important works describing the life of Alexander the Great, written by a Roman historian of the 1st century AD. This third, greatly expanded and revised edition of 1708 contains numerous illustrations, including a portrait of Pitiscus, geographical maps and engravings depicting ancient battles, coins and other artifacts related to Alexander's history. These graphic additions greatly enhance the educational and aesthetic value of the book. Quintus Curtius Rufus: Roman historian of the first century AD, author of the only surviving work describing the life of Alexander the Great. His work, though incomplete, is a valuable source of information on the war campaigns and character of the great leader. Samuel Pitiscus: Dutch scholar and classicist who published the first commentary on Curtius' work in 1684. In 1708, in the edition under review, he updated and expanded his commentaries, adding new information and analysis, making this edition one of the most important in the history of research on Alexander the Great. Parchment binding with rubbing soiling, ex-libris on the front pastedown, stamps, notations, underpainting of the title page. Good condition.
