A magnificent oval jewelry box (casket) made of gilded bronze (or brass), featuring a lid decorated with an engine-turned guilloché sunburst pattern and chased borders. The centerpiece of the lid is an exquisite hand-painted miniature on ivory or porcelain, protected by glass. The scene depicts a young noblewoman at a spinning wheel, a classic 19th-century genre subject. The miniature is signed "L.
