Tempera on wood panel
A distinctive two-register icon protected by a single metal oklad. The Upper Register: Depicts the Nativity of Christ featuring the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, and the Christ Child in the manger, with an angel appearing above in the clouds. The Lower Register: Depicts Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker in a standing pose, gesturing toward a church or monastery (likely a reference to his protection of a specific site or a miracle).
The metalwork is finely executed with beaded borders and stylized architectural elements in the background. Tempera on wood panel, covered by a silvered/gilded brass oklad, 22 x 9.5 cm
