Biography
Jan Nowak was professionally connected with the mine - he worked as a mechanic and was a foreman. At the end of the 1950s, he became interested in a functioning art circle and began to learn linocut from Stefan Suberlak. On his initiative, the art circle "Gwarek '58" was founded at the Katowice mine. For all his work, in 1989 he was authorized by the Minister of Culture to practice as an artist-artist. In his linocuts Nowak mainly portrays, both people known to himself and complete strangers. Nowak's works can be seen at the Silesian Museum in Katowice.
