Biography
From 1922 to 1924, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under Władysław Jarocki and Józef Pankiewicz, and from 1926 to 1930 in Paris at private painting academies. He then traveled to Constantinople to further his studies, also visiting Hungary, Romania, Yugoslavia, Greece, and Italy. From 1932 to 1937, he studied graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Jan Wojnarski. Initially, he focused on painting, but from 1932 onward, he devoted himself exclusively to graphic art. He worked in both monochrome and multicolored metal-based techniques. The most common themes in the artist’s work were the architecture of Polish cities, seascapes, and Silesian landscapes. He created a number of thematic series: “Silesian Portfolio,” “Seascape Portfolio,” “Warsaw,” “Lviv,” “Bielsko,” “Zaolzie,” and “Kraków”; he is also the author of numerous bookplates.
