Ryszard Stryjec (Lipniszki near Lida in the Vilnius region, 1932 – Gdańsk, 1997) studied painting at the State Higher School of Fine Arts (now the Academy of Fine Arts) in Gdańsk, in the studios of Professor Stanisław Teisseyre and Professor Krystyna Łada-Studnicka, and graphic arts in the studio of Professor Zygmunt Karolak. He received his diploma in 1958. After graduation, he practiced painting and ceramics—but above all, printmaking. He was a master in this field. Until his death in 1997, he lived and worked in Gdańsk, fascinated by its Old Town. Traces of this fascination can be seen in many of his works, which he most often created using the techniques of etching and copperplate engraving.
