Lithograph, handmade paper, 39 x 29 cm, signed in pencil lower right: “L. Corinth.” In good condition.
An original pencil autograph by one of the most famous German Expressionists. The artist was born in Tapiew near Königsberg and studied in Königsberg, Munich, and Paris. During his frequent vacations in Niechorze, he produced many portrait works. A total of over 20 monographic exhibitions have been dedicated to him in museums, and more than 50 books have been written about him. His later art was deemed “degenerate” by the Nazi authorities. There are five of his oil paintings in Polish museums. His Wikipedia biography is available in 40 languages, including Polish. This print was published in Berlin in 1925 as part of a portfolio of 13 prints accompanying F. Schiller’s “Wilhelm Tell.” Only 200 pieces were printed, 75 of which were on handmade paper—the piece offered here is one of them.
