Biography
He was the nephew of the renowned portrait painter Kazimierz Pochwalski. From 1917 to 1922, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under Józef Mehoffer, who considered him his most talented student. At the same time, he studied art history at Jagiellonian University. After receiving a scholarship from the French government, he studied for a year under Maurice Denis at the Académie Ranson in Paris. He exhibited at the TPSP in Kraków, Lviv, and Poznań, as well as at the Zachęta and the IPS in Warsaw. In addition, he participated in exhibitions organized by the “Sztuka” (from 1924), “Jednoróg,” and “Zwornik” art groups. In 1925, he held a solo exhibition at the TPSP in Kraków, and in 1927, he also held exhibitions in Grudziądz and Bydgoszcz. He painted landscapes, architectural views, portraits, still lifes, and, less frequently, genre scenes. He also practiced mural painting, primarily decorating churches in the Diocese of Kraków (including those in Ciężkowice, Ratoszyn, and Myszków).
