Terrace by the Sea at Saint Adresse or Garden at Saint-Adresse (French: Terrasse à Sainte-Adresse, Jardin à Sainte-Adresse) is an oil painting by Claude Monet, painted in 1867.
Monet painted this painting at the age of 26, at a time when he and a group of his friends in Paris were trying to find new ways to describe reality. The artist, due to poverty, had to leave Paris. He went to his aunt in Sainte-Adresse, a village near Le Havre. The garden in the painting was owned precisely by Monet's aunt, who is shown on the canvas as a seated woman with a white umbrella. Next to her rests the artist's father. Further away stands a cousin with her friend.
Twelve years after it was made, Monet exhibited the painting at the fourth Impressionist exhibition in 1879.
