Janina NOWOTNOWA (1887-1963), "Venice".

A painter and graphic artist, she was associated with the Krakow and Lviv art communities. She first learned painting at the Baraniecki courses in Cracow, and then at the State Industrial School in Lviv; she studied graphics under Ludwik Tyrowicz. She made artistic trips to Vienna, Lovrana, Paris and Prague. In 1912 she settled in Lviv. After the Second World War, she moved to Cracow. Among other things, she was a member of the Association of Polish Women Painters in Lviv, the Association of Polish Graphic Artists in Krakow. She participated in numerous national exhibitions and exhibited in Chicago, Vienna and New York. The subjects of her works were flower studies, Podkarpackie landscapes, genre scenes, portraits. Of the graphic techniques she practiced linocut, woodcut, mezzotint and drypoint, most often they were atmospheric cityscapes developed with great attention to the workshop side.
