Heart
Photographer, one of the most important in Polish commercial advertising photography. Concentrating on the nude and still life, he created a clearly recognizable style in artistic photography.
He was born in 1949 in Sroda Wlkp. He made his debut in the 1970s, starting by photographing humans in various contexts. Together with Janusz Nowacki and Stanislaw Strzyżewski, he co-founded the group ZBLIŻENIE (1974-1979), animating conceptual and performance photographic actions.
In 1976-86, he became a camera operator at the Poznan branch of TVP, where he worked on plays by Maciej Wojtyszko, Ryszard Bugajski, Krzysztof
Rogulski, Henryk Kuba and many entertainment programs - including Boguslaw Kaczynski's "Opera qui pro guo" series and recordings of Zenon Laskowik and Krzysztof Jaślar's cabaret TEY.
From December 5, 1982 to November 3, 1985, he edited the last page of the newly established weekly Wprost, running the author's Maciej Mankowski Gallery, which fulfilled an important educational function among readers: it presented works by leading photographers of the Western world (such as Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, Diana Arbus, Robert Mappelthorpe, David Beiley, Hiro, Annie Leibovitz, John Thornton, among others). While provoking with a different aesthetic, she simultaneously familiarized Polish audiences with world portrait, fashion and advertising photography. He also worked for "Wprost" in 1985 as a graphic designer. At the "Wielka 19" Gallery (on Wielka Street in Poznan), he realized the first exhibition of works by Ryszard Horovitz in Poland and the exhibition "Photography - the art of myth" - a set of photographs by leading artists of world advertising photography.
In 1989, he established his own Advertising Photography Studio PHOTO DESIGN in Poznan, which is still in operation today. Among other things, he creates photography used by architects in interior design. Recently, he has been most fascinated by taking photographs in a technique inspired by the activities of daguerreotypists - he translates them in his own way onto large metal plates. He called his method dagegraphy.
Since 1985 he has been a member of the Union of Polish Artists Photographers. He has taken part in dozens of exhibitions, and has published/is publishing in "Wprost", "Twój Styl", "Playboy" and "Foto".
