Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow from 1951 to 1957. His work is part of the current of geometric abstraction and minimalism. The artist is primarily interested in issues of space. In his realizations he relies on a fixed repertoire of elements: a circle, an arc, which is a slice of a circle, and a straight line. Kalucki analyzes their relationships on the picture plane or in spatial installations. The media through which he expresses himself (painting, drawing, installation) are equivalent for the artist: "what matters is a certain intention, the rest is the means," he says. Intuition also turns out to be important for Kalucki's speculative art: "for me, the first impulse for action, a clue in choosing the path of action is usually intuition."

The presented work refers to the spatial installation "Beyond the First", realized in 1996 at the "Potocka" Gallery in Cracow.

As Bożena Kowalska wrote: "Between Kalucki's painting and installations is located, as a separate field of creativity, drawing. For a long time fulfilling the role of auxiliary sketches to those two disciplines - only in 1987 it gained autonomy. It remains close to painting, because, like it, it takes place on a plane. However, it is just as strongly coupled with spatial forms and arrangements, because visually it is mainly associated with them. And just as in spatial realizations, one can see in him better than in painting the mathematical basis of constructing space" (B.
