folding map, mounted on canvas as part of the publication, 61.5 x 69 cm;
The map was published by the British General Staff and was classified as confidential. It was revised based on aerial photographs in 1939 and published in December 1940. These pieces were found in the desert sands at the Polish headquarters of the 2nd Carpathian Rifle Regiment, which, alongside the Allies, defended Tobruk for half a year in 1941 against attacks by the armored regiments of the famous General Rommel. Among other things, the map shows: airfields, fortifications, ports, and telegraph stations. This copy belonged to the 2nd Carpathian Rifle Regiment, as it was found alongside a map of Tel Aviv bearing that regiment’s stamp. [see the next map in this auction]. Military sketches around Tobruk drawn in pencil. Very rare;
Condition: a few minor scuffs at the folds.
