A rare denomination from an inflationary issue.
This is a reprint of the 50,000-mark banknote from March 1923, with a face value of 5 million marks. It was the city’s response to the galloping inflation of the German mark, which led to a currency changeover to the gulden just two months later. The banknote was in circulation from August 27, 1923, to October 15, 1923.
The overprint is in the green color typical of this denomination.
Compared to the banknotes from March 1923, the colors of the Senate seal and the serial number (from red to green) were also changed.
