* Paul Revere was a famous American silversmith, descended from a family of French silversmiths fleeing religious persecution. He was a hero of the American War of Independence. At the beginning of the war, Revere began producing gunpowder and bronze cannons. He also printed the first paper banknotes for the future state of Massachusetts and the brass state seal used to this day on special occasions. After the war, he returned to goldsmithing, and his wares are still highly valued today and are found in private and museum collections. He produced sheet metal for the hull upholstery of the USS Constitution ("Old Ironside"), and bells, produced at Paul Revere's plant, still ring in New England churches today. Revere Silversmiths Inc. is a company founded in New York in 1914, following in the tradition of Paul Revere's superior quality products.
