Czesław TAÑSKI
1862 Pieczyska - 1942 OlszankaArtist, painter, designer. He received his education at the Warsaw Drawing School under the direction of W. Gerson and A. Kaminski. After a four-year stay at the school, he went to Munich on a scholarship, where he began to paint his first paintings. In 1885 he traveled to Moscow, where he won great recognition for his painting talent. He was a member of the Pro Arte group, painting battle scenes and genre paintings. Since childhood he was interested in flying. In 1893 he was summoned by the management of the stud farm in Janov to do portraits of Arabian horses. His several-year stay in Janow gave him the opportunity to do the first larger-scale flying experiments in Poland. There, in 1896, he made the first flight in Poland on the "Lotnia" glider he built. In 1907, he constructed a prototype helicopter.
