"These are good realist studies, experiences of color that have vigor but have necessarily been affected by that simplicity that invariably accompanies the works of artists who do not base their material knowledge of painting on an ideal or, in other words, a system responsible for imposing higher views on them, which raises them artistically above even the most skilful laboratory or culinary experiments."
