Rolle, Antoni Józef. Women of the Borderlands. Historical Stories. Warsaw, 1883. Published by Gebethner and Wolff, p. 243, [1], 20.5 cm, period binding, cloth with embossing and gilding.
These stories, written in a light and conversational style, are devoted to the lives of courageous women facing the turmoil of war in the borderlands of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. They were penned by Antoni Józef Rolle (1829–1894), a physician, social activist, bibliophile, historian, and writer. The author made historical figures the heroines of his stories, including Hanna Borzobohata Krasieńska and Teofila Chmielecka. Minor wear on the binding, an outdated ownership inscription; otherwise in good condition.
