Lot information
This rotella shield is a 19th century replica inspired by shields produced in Italy and Spain during the 16th century. Rotels were popular defensive weapons used by both infantry and nobles, often richly decorated and serving as a symbol of prestige. The shield has a circular shape and is made of steel. The central part is equipped with a steel spike, which served as additional protection against blows or as a means of attack in close combat. The surface of the shield is richly decorated with etched plant ornaments that cover most of the surface and form the central decorative motif. Around the perimeter of the shield is an ornate, twisted border and a series of brass rivets that give the shield an aesthetic appearance.
